The Historical Legacy of Rooibos
Rooibos, or 'red bush', is endemic to the Cederberg Mountains region in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is here, in unique climatic conditions, that this amazing plant grows.
Traditions and Discovery
For centuries, the indigenous Khoisan people used rooibos as a medicinal drink. European settlers learned about its properties only in the 17th century. An interesting fact: attempts to cultivate rooibos outside its natural habitat have generally been unsuccessful, which underscores the uniqueness of its origin and terroir.
