The Menghai region, located in the southern part of China’s Yunnan province, is the true cradle of puerh tea. Its mountainous landscapes, dense fogs, and rich red soil create ideal conditions for tea bushes to grow. It is here that thousands of years old tea trees, considered the oldest in the world, can be found. It is said that Menghai’s misty valleys and fertile soil give the tea a unique terroir, expressed in its depth and character. According to legend, puerh tea was born in these very mountains when ancient caravan routes discovered that tea leaves transformed into a unique beverage during long journeys.
- 🍵 Use a gaiwan or a small clay teapot (100-150 ml).
- 🌡️ Heat water to 95-100°C.
- ⚖️ Place 5-7 grams of tea into the teapot or gaiwan.
- 💧 First “awakening” rinse: pour hot water over the tea and immediately (after 5-10 seconds) discard it. This awakens the tea leaves and cleanses them.
- ⏳ Subsequent infusions: start with 10-15 seconds and gradually extend each subsequent infusion time by 5-10 seconds. This puerh can withstand multiple infusions, offering new flavor nuances each time.
